"Welcome to the spinning world," the people sang, as they washed your new, tiny hands. "Welcome to the green Earth," the people sang, as they wrapped your wet, slippery body. And as they held you close They whispered into your open, curving ear, "We are so glad you've come!" -Debra Frasier

Dear Nicholas and Conaire,

The day you were both born turned out to be lovely and sunny. When you arrived however it was very dark and quiet at the Foothills Hospital... Your Mom grew a spectacular belly for you both to grow in. I have often told her she is a baby making machine, because she grows strong healthy babies who insist on being at the top of the charts. (I think that runs in your family) Your mom was looked after during her pregnancy by several different doctors, nurses and ultrasound technicians. From time to time the professionals would start to get worried about, how big her belly was getting or if you boys had enough room and any other thing they could think of. But not your Mom, she always knew that you both were fine and healthy. In the days before you were born it got harder for your Mom to walk and get out of bed; she was ready to meet you guys. On Tuesday March 23, 2004 your Mom called me and asked me to come pick her up because it was time to go to the hospital. When I arrived your Bubbie was picking up your sisters so they could stay at her house while your mom was at the hospital. Your Grandpa was in town from Vancouver and was preparing to cook some food to put in the freezer . As we walked across the hospital parking lot we were sure that today was a perfect day to have two babies... Your dad met us at the hospital. Neither of you were in a hurry to come out so the doctor suggested some ways to get things moving along. They gave your Mom some medicine and then we waited and waited some more. Doctors get worried about twins so they had your Mom hooked up to a machine that showed the doctors your heartbeats. You two were squirmy little guys; it was very hard to keep the machine reading both of your heart beats at the same time. We had to get an ultrasound picture to see where you were and then it took the doctors, the nurses, your Mom, your Dad and me to keep that machine working. For many months, Nicholas had his head down and was ready to be the first one out. Then at the hospital the craziest thing happened, Conaire pushed his way so he could be the first one out.

We got to the hospital at 3:00 in the afternoon and by 2:00 in the morning we knew it was time for you two to come out! Your Mom was very brave and told Dr. Martin that she was going to have a Cesarean Birth. Which is exactly the way your sisters were born. How lucky to be born the same way and at the same hospital as your big sisters. The doctors got your Mom ready and your Dad got dressed in some hospital clothes. I got to watch from the window. Dr. Martin used all his skills and at exactly the perfect moment he lifted Conaire out to greet the world. Exactly one minute later Nicholas was lifted to greet the world as well. You were both born strong and healthy boys, to your parents delight. I am honored and delighted to have been invited to attend your births. I will treasure the memory of holding you both when you were so new for the rest of my life.

May you both live long, healthy and happy lives.

Now the Taub family is complete!

With much love,

Michelle
